Restore snapshots from Wayback Machine

The tool for this can be found here

First install Ruby:

‘sudo apt install ruby’

Then:

‘gem install wayback_machine_downloader’

Create a folder/find a location to save the site to. This tool will automatically create a ‘websites’ folder in your current working folder then a subfolder with the URL name. Website files will go into this subfolder.

Usage example is:

‘wayback_machine_downloader http://www.yourwebsite.com/

This will try to download the most recent copy of the website, you can try and manage the file versions downloaded with the –to and –from commands.

Usage example is:

‘wayback_machine_downloader http://www.yourwebsite.com/ –to timestamp –from timestamp’

Keep in mind that website links will automatically update from the wayback URL location to the domain name. If you do not update links they will not work outside the live environment.
